Morning Worship – Sunday 14th May 2023
The story of the spread of the gospel moves from Peter and the believers in Jerusalem to Antioch in Syria (about 300 miles north of Jerusalem). There has been a great response to the gospel from the Gentiles there and Barnabas is sent to see what is going on. He is greatly encouraged to see the grace of God at work, but recognises that the work is too much for him. He travels to Tarsus to get Saul and bring him back to support him in this work. This is the start of their long partnership in the gospel together. But a significant moment happens in Antioch as followers of Jesus are first called Christians there. This is a slur towards them, but being followers of Christ and in the truth of the gospel means there is no greater name to be called or known by. Acts 11 v 19-30 continues the great movement of the gospel into all the world.
