Romans – The Heart of the Gospel

Between September 2023 and June 2024 we will look together at Paul’s letter to the Romans. At the heart of this letter is the gospel! This should come as no surprise as Paul is the missionary to the gentile world and as he goes he plants churches and matures disciples in faith. But there is something different about this church. Paul didn’t plant it and as a church it doesn’t know Paul. So this letter is about Paul introducing himself and presenting an argument that is logical in its progression about why the gospel is true and why the christians in the pagan imperial capital should remain in it. Paul’s central point and affirmation is found in chapter 1 and verse 16-17:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

Romans 1: 16-17 (ESV)
