Annalong Presbyterian Church
Midweek

Midweek

The new season of Midweek starts on Wednesday, 25 September 2024. More details will be made available in due course.

In a break from our normal Bible Study series (see below) we will take two weeks to listen to the global church. In February 2024 the Council for Global Mission of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland held a conference to hear about how God is at work in Egypt. The guest speaker was Dr Anne Zaki. Dr Zaki is the Professor of Preaching and Practical Theology at the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo, Egypt.

The church of Jesus Christ is not isolated to one specific part of the world. The gospel has gone far and wide and one of the first countries to receive the gospel was Egypt. 2,000 years later the church is still going in the land of the Pharaohs. Faced with persecution it continues to remain faithful to the gospel.

Over two weeks, starting on Wednesday 22 May, we will watch this video series to see what we can learn from God’s church in the Middle East. We meet at 8.00pm in the Fellowship Room. Everyone is welcome and tea and coffee will be served on arrival.

You can download the handout for these evenings, which includes space for notes and prayer points, here: God’s Church in Egypt Handout.

Part of our regular worship is to meet during the week to learn together and pray for church ministries and actives and for those going through difficult times. We do this on Wednesday evenings (except the third Wednesday in each month) at Midweek. We meet in the church hall from 8.00pm and everyone is welcome to Join us.

Between April and June 2024 we return to a Bible study series we started in 2023. Christian Disciples allows us to go deep, be strengthen and mature in the faith. Looking at different topics we sit around tables to read the Bible and answer questions that the text presents. Learning together we grow together in knowledge, wisdom and fellowship. Everyone is welcome to join us at Midweek.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

Previous Midweek Series:

Understanding who we are defines us. As God’s people we look back not just to Scripture, but to the life of the church in all ages so we can know what has shaped us. During this series we will see how people and places have led to a greater understanding of God and developed what we know our theology to be. The Tabernacle, the tent of meeting, is a key part of the story of the Children of Israel. God designed it to be a visible sign of his presence with his people and as a focus for worship. Every detail was significant and looks beyond the Children of Israel to Jesus Christ, the more perfect tent (Hebrews 9:11).

400 years of history is a long time!  From the time when the exiles return to Jerusalem and rebuild the walls of the city to the advent of Christ in the New Testament we have 400 years of Biblical silence.  This series looks at what happened in those years and how they shape the time into which Jesus comes and how that impacts our faith today.
