Chapter 12 of the Acts of the Apostles becomes the darkest hour for the church. John, one of the sons of Zebedee, is arrested and executed. King Herod saw how this delighted the Jews in Jerusalem, so he arrests Peter with the intention to have him executed also. But God has other plans and through a miracle escape, Peter is saved and the church emboldened. Herod begins the chapter on the hunt to kill the leaders of the church for his own political benefit. As the chapter ends it is he who is executed by the angel of the Lord for revealing in the status of the divine the people place on him. Acts 12 v 1-25 continues the great movement of the gospel into all the world.
